Visit to the Australian Jazz Museum with Professor Anne Gilliland

Today I had the pleasure of taking Professor Anne Gilliland, Director of the Archival Studies specialization in the Department of Information Studies at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), to the Australian Jazz Museum in Melbourne.

The AJM has been the subject of so many posts on this blog, being one of the key sites of this research. It is usually closed on Mondays but we were welcomed by the wonderful Ray Sutton, former general manager of the Museum, who gave a tour of the facility and answered our questions about the work of the AJM and its volunteers. Though I've visited the AJM many times now over the course of my research, this was a very different experience. With Ray being the only volunteer present the space was very quiet - the usual chatter of volunteers was absent, but Ray put on some jazz to accompany our visit.

Since my last visit in late-September the social media activity of the AJM has increased considerably. If you don't already, follow the AJM on Instagram for photos of many wonders of the archive, including its volunteers.
